   General Requirements
All active members of the Fund are eligible to avail of the benefit schemes. An “active member” is one that is currently employed and on whose behalf contributions are being remitted to the Fund.
Members should be below 70 years of age.
Members whose age is over 70 years will also qualify to avail of the benefit schemes. However, the member should have been an active member of the Fund for a period of 25 years and during that period, a withdrawal of contributions should not have been obtained.
A membership period of at least 12 months must have been completed.
Contributions should have been paid regularly during the last 12 months preceding the month in which the event (ex. Heart Surgery, Death, etc.) occurred.
There are other requirements applicable to some of the schemes.
 
  Life Insurance Benefit Scheme
This benefit is available to all active members during the period of their employment. It provides benefits to heirs of the deceased member
The limit of benefits is fifteen times the average of the last salary drawn by the member preceding the death, subject to a maximum of Rs. 100,000/-.
The death claim application should be forwarded to the Board not later than one year from the date of death.
Beneficiaries will be the legal heirs of the deceased member.
Contributions should have been paid regularly during the 12-month period prior to death.
In case of death due to following terminal illnesses, the requirement of the minimum 12-month period of active membership would not apply and at least two months’ contribution would suffice to be eligible for benefits:
 
Cancer
Tuberculosis
Chronic renal disease
Chronic liver failure
Septicaemia
 
  Permanent Disability Insurance Scheme
This scheme provides benefits to members in case of total disability resulting in the loss of employment, subject to a ceiling of Rs. 200,000/-, depending on the degree of disablement. Members are covered throughout 24 hours in respect of accidents, certain industrial diseases numbering 30, and paralysis.
Affected member will qualify for benefits only if the disability is found to be more than 50%, on examination by the Physician.
The employer should certify that the employment has ceased due to the accident/disease.
Application has to be forwarded within six months from the date of discharge from hospital or from the date of termination of employment, whichever date is later.
 
   Financial Assistance for Heart Surgeries
Members who have to undergo heart surgeries listed below are eligible to seek financial assistance up to Rs. 150,000/-.
Coronary Heart Disease (By-pass Surgery)
Congenital Heart Disease (Heart Valve Disease)
Heart Valve Replacement
Heart Pacemaker Implant
Angioplasty and Stentng
Radio-Frequency (RF) Ablations [a method of treatment similar to angioplasty]
Implantable Cardiovertor Defibrillator (ICD) [a method of treatment similar to pacemaker implant]
The surgery could be done at any Government or Privet Hospital in Sri Lanka or overseas.
The member who would undergo the surgery should produce a letter from the cardiologist indicating the type of surgery and the estimated cost quoted by hospital.
Claim should be submitted before surgery or within 60 days from the date of surgery.
All sources of financial assistance obtained and amounts should be declared by the member [e.g. Employer, President’s Fund and other Institutions/Charities].
In case the surgery is performed overseas, a letter issued by the Cardiologist in Sri Lanka referring the patient to the overseas hospital and the bills from the overseas hospital indicating the total cost should be produced along with the application.
 
   Re-imbursement of Cost of Intra-ocular Lens
The scheme enables members to claim reimbursement of cost of intra-ocular lens implanted following cataract surgery, subject to a maximum of Rs. 9,000/- per each eye.
The surgery may be done at any Government or Private hospital. Only the cost of the lenses will be reimbursed subject to a maximum of Rs.9,000 per each eye.
Application has to be forwarded within 60 days from the date of discharge from hospital.
 
   Year Five Scholarship Assistance Scheme
Children of active members of the Fund (either of the parents) who pass the Year Five Scholarship Examination with merit are eligible for this benefit.  Every year, 7000 awards each worth Rs. 15,000/- are made.
Press notice will be published calling applications once the examination results are released.
 
   “Shramasuwa Rekawarana” Hospitalization Medical Scheme
This is a benefit scheme for members to get hospitalization expenses reimbursed.
To be eligible, members should have been contributing to the Fund for at least five years. The maximum benefit is Rs.25,000/- per year and the maximum amount of benefits is limited to Rs. 50,000/- per each member during the period of employment.
A member should be hospitalized for a minimum period of 48 hours.
Treatment may be obtained from all Government Hospitals, Government Ayruedic Hospitals and Government-approved Private Hospitals registered with the Board.
In case tests or drugs were required from private institutions while being treated at a government hospital, such expenses are reimbursed within the limit.
The application should be submitted within 60 days from the date of discharge from hospital.
 
    ‘Viyana’ Housing Loan Scheme
Through this scheme members can obtain housing loans at concessionary rates of interest from NDB Bank. Employees’ Trust Fund Board and NDB Bank have laid down specific conditions in respect of this scheme.
Basic requirement for this benefit is maintaining a minimum of 5 years continuous membership of the Fund.
Depending on the amount of loan applied, the Board will prescribe a certain minimum amount of contributions in the Fund.
Minimum amount of the loan is Rs. 100,000/= and the maximum limit is Rs. 1,500,000/=.
NDB Bank is situated at 712, Galle Road, Colombo 3. Loans are  disbursed to active members of the ETF for purchase of houses, construction of houses, extensions, renovations, and for redeeming loans obtained from other lending institutions.
 
   Financial Assistance for Kidney Transplant Surgeries
This is the latest benefit package introduced by the Board. Financial assistance up to a maximum of Rs. 150,000/- is offered.
This scheme has been in operation from 1st July 2006.
Maximum limit of the benefit is Rs. 150,000/-.
Financial assistance will be provided only for Kidney Transplants.  Surgeries or treatment for any other kidney ailment are not covered under this scheme.
Only the recipient of the kidney is entitled to benefits and the donor, even if an active ETF member, will not be eligible to claim any benefits under this scheme.
The transplant can be done either in any of the hospital where the kidney transplants are performed in Sri Lanka or overseas.
The member who has to undergo kidney transplant should produce a letter from the hospital indicating the type of the surgery and the cost.
The applications issued by the Board should be duly completed and submitted to the Board before the surgery or within 60 days after the surgery.
  In case where the transplant is performed overseas a letter issued by the surgeon/physician in Sri Lanka referring the patient to the overseas hospital and all bills from the overseas hospital indicating the total cost should be produced to the Board along with the relevant application.
